Gietz locations

October 30th, 2009

If I don’t have time to do anything right now it’s all because of this project called Gietz, a graphic novel about Jazz music in the Italian fifties. Right now I have to work on this 24/7 to meet the impending deadline. It became some kind of nightmare on one hand, on the other I still enjoy drawing this, especially the long shots… makes me dream about the sea.

A Hundred Word Stories. #027

The Magpie by Ryan Licata

magpie

Market day was the best time to be at it. His victims were fellows with twirling canes and straw hats, beside dames with parasols, strolling about, haggling for rugs, munching from a bag of the Chinaman’s persimmons. He’d bide his time in the narrow streets, to where they were carried beneath him by the push of the crowd. Then, on the hour, as the church bells rang, the inexplicable would occur: a choreographed dance of dandies removing their watches from their pockets. And that’s when he struck, with the quick rip of fabric, the flutter of wings, up, and away.

Notes:

When I first read this story I didn’t know what a Magpie was, but I immediately had to think about a strange looking fellow, dressed in black with big wings on his back. Then I looked the word up in the dictionary, and it all made sense…

Notes

As you can see, another issue of  A Hundred Word Stories must go with only one story. Unfortunately my time for at least a couple of weeks will be really little, so I’ll do one a week, alternating an English story with an Italian one. Please be patient, after Bolzano Comics is over I should be able to return to my old posting rhythm!

Spaceman by Ryan Licata

spaceman lost in space
The spaceman drifted further out into space. The coiled silver tube that had attached him to the mother-ship, severed by his own hands, resembled an umbilical cord where death gently crept in, and life reluctantly seeped out. The spaceman came to look upon the galaxy that was so infinitely vast and yet about to crush him; he had come as far as he could go, farther than he had imagined, only to see that the stars were no closer to him now than they had ever been once standing on earth. With everything that was his last, he reached out.

Notes

As you can see today only one story/illustration goes on-line. This is due to the fact that my time in the last weeks has been severely limited by the amount of work I have to do. This will change soon, so no need to worry.
