A Hundred Word Stories #48

Melon Colic by Ryan Licata

She had me wait in the parlour while she finished adding some final touches to her dress. She’d put on a record so that I would not feel alone. It turned out to be Mahler - who always made me feel so terribly lonely. I walked around the room, looking for clues. She kept an empty birdcage with a small mirror inside. I decided to mention it later, if the evening should come to that. She came out soon enough, wearing a black scarf in the middle of summer, catching me with the A-Z of existentialism.

Notes

I’ve been strangely productive this weekend (like I will nto be again in the next few months I guess), so here I’m back with the double posting of stories.

Killer Aloe Soundtrack

Killer Aloe – die Rache der Heilpflanzen (which means something like “the vengeance of the medical plants”) is a short super-8 movie by Daniel “Analoge Widerstandsfront” Mahlknecht and Silvana Zancolò. I was asked to create a soundtrack for it a long time ago (probably more than 2 years) but only now I find some time to work on it. I’m still sketching out the intro, which I’ve been using to define the overall style of the soundtrack, and I think I’m starting to get somewhere here, at least that’s my feeling with it.

Killer Aloe OST – Intro v 0.5 by rumpelfilter

And now some info for the technically inclined: The theremin style sound, comes from the Novation Bass Station, and there is a bit of C64, which I’ve added to the low end of the composition. A Gakken SX-150 was used to add some FX and weirdness here and there. I had added some Atari Punk Console sounds, but have removed them here, they will appear further on in the score.

(the picture above is an actual frame from the movie of course)

Spaceman by Ryan Licata

spaceman lost in space
The spaceman drifted further out into space. The coiled silver tube that had attached him to the mother-ship, severed by his own hands, resembled an umbilical cord where death gently crept in, and life reluctantly seeped out. The spaceman came to look upon the galaxy that was so infinitely vast and yet about to crush him; he had come as far as he could go, farther than he had imagined, only to see that the stars were no closer to him now than they had ever been once standing on earth. With everything that was his last, he reached out.

Notes

As you can see today only one story/illustration goes on-line. This is due to the fact that my time in the last weeks has been severely limited by the amount of work I have to do. This will change soon, so no need to worry.
